Car problem: jumpstart didn't work, starter motor clicks, wiper/radio works,?

Hi,

I have this problem with my car.

1. The remote key didn't work.

2. Opened the car with regular key, and tried to jumpstart it (after disabling alarm). The alarm was disabled, radio started, wipers worked, but not the car.

3. The starter motor clicks.

4. Charged the battery using another car + jumper cables, and left it for 5-6 minutes, but it still didn't start the car.

Any ideas what's going on? Its a 5 year old car, didn't have any problem with battery until now.

Was the engine running and revs held up on the other car you were using to jump? You need to get maximum output from the other car's battery and aternator.

If you get no joy from jumpstarting, the starter is probably stuffed and has probably helped to tip an already weak battery over the edge by drawing extra juice.

Regardless of what you did before the car wouldn't start the problem USUALLY IS one of three things (doesn't mean it can't be something else) The battery is dead. (or needs to be recharged) Do that first before anything else. The starter or the solenoid which is sometimes a part of the starter. I would go with the battery. as a first choice. don't use the battery light as a wy to tell if the battery is good or bad. If after charging the battery every thing is the same, remove the battery and take it to an AUTO ZONE store where they will actually check It out with meters that will tell if it's good or bad. New Battery? next, solenoid. if not a part of the starter. Last would be the starter. Here's a test you can do yourself before removing the battery. with 2 people, have one person turn the key to the start position while the second person looks under the car for the starter, once found start tapping on the starter with a hammer while the other person has the key turned to the start position (all the way to the right) If the car starts while your doing these things then THE STARTER IS BAD, not the battery or the solenoid. This is all I've got guys. Good luck to ya.

If it is the original battery that came with the car, then you probably need a new battery, 5 years is about the absolute max life. It won't hold a charge and the radio needs very little energy to actually turn on and work. It takes alot of the battery's energy to actually start a car.

The battery may be the problem. Lots of car batteries last only about 5 years. And they will go dead suddenly, especially when it gets really cold or really hot.

Easy enough to test - pull the battery and take it someplace like Auto Zone or a service station that can test the battery.

It might be just the battery connectors .I would try that first.Make sure they are clean and tight.Since the starter clicks that shows it is getting juice but just not enough. If it still doesent work check to see the electrical wires and connections between the starter and battery. After this it would be smart to take the battery to get it checked.

Flat battery. The click is the starter solenoid working, but there is not enough power in the battery to turn the starter motor.

The battery might not be taking a charge any more so you may need to get it changed

If the radio works, engine should be working too. I think there

is something wrong with the engine.

it's time for a new battery, they can die on you at any time, theres no set time or pattern .
