I really need to make money, but am hiv positive? advice?
every little bit helps
excuse me people. I didn't add that Im on social security and it affects my getting a job. have other health problems as well.
dang some of you people are ignorant. lol. but I guess I am too. lol, I phrased the question wrong.......
and yes I do have full blown aids, but can come back from it...most people don't know that. I didn't. It's relative to your blood cell count.
get a job answers for the two points will get negative feedback. don't make me follow you to other peoples questions. lol
people I haven't worked since 2001 because of other health problems. It was not my idea, btw....
also when I was young I used to contribute to causes here and there when I could. Plus I would go to Freedonation.com and the hunger site and breast cancer sites. and redjellyfish.com
I have to laugh at the people who say get a job who must think I haven't tried that or am able to. and the rude answers that assume I'm just trying to be a user and say get a job. Well guess what. you are the user. you just made two points off of me. never again

Can you also give us a bit of info about where you are from - for example in the UK there are various organisations where folks with certain diagnosis can earn (I think) upto 16 hours a week BEFORE it effects allowances (DLA / Income support etc)
Not sure about in the States, but I am sure other can comment about that.
Irresepctive of where you are, have you spoken to the local HIV / AIDS orgs near you - I used to work for one years back and we quite often had folks living with HIV contact us for info about job opps / rights etc - and although I am rusty as bu66ery now, I (and other staff) used to be able to point people in the right direction fairly easily - loads of inter-agency contacts including rights / finance etc.
As you have been given an AIDS diagnosis as well as an HIV "tag" (aren't labels great) you ought to find it reasonably easy to get various other forms of assistance if in UK, eg mobility fund, DLA Level 2, housing benefit, income support AND almost certainly the right to work 16 hours a week too.
Again if in the US / elsewhere I am sure things are different - BUT would be stunned if there wasn't SOME sort of allowance / program / resource / entitlement that would help you either obtain more income OR give you the right to earn it without it clobbering your benefits.

what does needing money have to do with being HIV positive? With the number of medications and advances they have made with delaying the onset of AIDS you can live a very normal life.
Having that disease is your business to know and yours to give out and tell people. If you need a job go out and get a job. Being HIV positive shouldn't stop you from obtaining a job unless you work in the prostitution or blood donor fields...

I am sorry to hear about your illnesses. First off you can find a job. Yes it will be hard to do but it will happen for you. An employer can not just NOT hire you because of your aids, that would be considered discrimination. But there is a place out there for everyone and you will find a job. Even it means working at a nursing home or school as a cook, so what! At least you can say you are doing something for yourself

Having HIV does not prevent you from getting a job. It only eliminates a few fields where close contact with the public is necessary. Like food service probably won't hire you, but ringing up clothes at your local department store is still a possibility.

What does having HIV have to do with work, just dont get a job where you could easily get hurt/cut and youll be fine. They dont ask if you have HIV on an application, so go apply where ever you can.

Start with a good image. A person should be able to understand some bad luck and a bad night and some wrong decisions. Life's hard like that. Wear a nice suit for any job interveiw and soud intelegent. Intelegence and correct grammar is key. It might also help to study some things about the job you are interveiwing for. If the boss is impressed by your knowledge, correct grammar, image, and your self comfort level you should do fine.

Being HIV + should not affect your ability to get a job. Anyone that denies you work because of your condition is breaking the law.

Get a job. You might not get full blown aids for 10 years.
Get on a budget now and live with only the things you really need. Cut back on stuff you don't. Account for every dollar you spend.

You can get a job with it. If not it would be discrimination.
*** Regarding Social Security, I know of you're retired, you can still have a job and earn so much. Here is the part in the Social Security Admin. site about it:

I'm not sure if it's different if you're on SSI, but you could look into it. Good Luck!!!
