What do you look for when picking a best answer on Yahoo Answers?
I'm really curious about what the community thinks; there are a bunch of factors that I have in mind when creating a quality response, but I'd like to know what you look for!

I look for the best answer.
First and foremost, the answer has to make sense. A more informative answer than another correct answer will get the 10 points.
I don't concern myself with thumbs up or thumbs down, however, if I like the answer, I will give it a thumbs up. If it's just stupid, or rude, I give it a thumbs down.
I also don't concern myself with whether or not an answerer is a "Top Contributer" or has amassed a lot of points or a high percentage of best answers. There are many factors that can contribute to any of these measures, and not all of them are good.
Source(s): The best answer is not always the "correct" answer. Think about it. - Anonymous1 decade ago
When I pick a best answer, I'm looking for answers that are not only well-thought out, but also validated from reputable sites (health questions/answers). I don't like to vote just for the sake of voting. I'd rather vote best answers in the areas I know something about. I've seen bad information passed on and best answer votes given when the answer was wrong and possibly dangerous.
Points are fun, but that's why not I do this. If anyone looks at my present profile, I'm very new. However, in my old Yahoo ID, I had over 700 points and a 29% best answer rate. I'm not bragging---just want to indicate that I go for quality responses and vote appropriately.

I generally look for the best response, the one that I would say. That's how I pick my answer!!! I also factor in the thumbs up and down especially when the question has a lot of answers. This means that many of the responders have gone through themselves and rated the answers. (I don't judge on one thumb though, this could be the poster themselves)

I choose the one that is most helpful to me and that i feel would be helpful to others later so they don't have to ask the same question all over again.
At times I look up answers (like for cooking) and a best answer by asker weighs more to me than one voted.

If I'm just looking for the points I just pick the first answer. If it's my question, I choose the answer that's either correct or has the most thought. When I have time and just wanna browse unresolved questions, I read the question and choose the one I believe is the most accurate and thoughtful.

You judge each answer on which one answers your question the best and/or helps you the most... also check the person's user score a top contributer is usually a safe bet also any people with a higher user score is a good choice too.

The one that helped me the most... the one that appears to have put the most effort into their answer... trying to help me... rather than just copy and paste from Wikipedia. I
If there's no Best Answer, I'd just pick the one I hate the least.

Well generally I want a straight answer. If it is a detailed, complete answer without sarcasm then I give it Best Answer.

I look for the answer that I think best answers my question. Barring that, I look for an answer that makes me smile.
