They were also trying to update the hate crime legislation by tacking it onto war money. Kinda a 2 of 2 deal. Democratic legislatures in the Senate backed down, since they need to get the bill through. How sad. I'm telling, on a federal level, big positive changes for the LGBT community in '08.

Let me explain to you about Rhode Island: Simply put, there are people in RI that don't support gay marriage, they're trying to get rid of it. The are trying to REOPEN the question of its legality through denying a divorce, claiming laws didn't allow it.

obviously, but I would rather they stay married, too many other gay/lesbian couples are still fighting for that right without having to relocate. What was the purpose of even getting married and they were barely married two years. I'm not suggesting that ANYONE should stay in a loveless marriage, I just don't understand the point of getting married for just a few years.

Looks like lesbian couples have the same problems as us all. Hope there are no children to hurt, so much for the lesbian good parent theory!

it would probably be better for the cause of gay marriage if they didn't get a divorce, since this makes people say "oh see gay marriage must not be good if they want a divorce".

but yes you're right that that's not fair.

I personally agree with the judge. They griped for years that they should be allowed to marry, and now that they are they want to get divorced? wtf?

Lot's of straight couples are refused as well if theres no grounds for the divorce, so theres no discrimination there
