Is it dangerous to travel after Pulmonary Embolism if you take prcautions such as coumadin?
In 2001 diagnosed with PE . I went on coumadin for three years, then aspirin for three years. The aspirin caused some stomach problems. For the past year I have been taking Nattokiase, a natural blood.thinner, at the advice of a naturalpath. (big mistake)
Nov. 8, 2007 I had another massive PE caused by DVT but I did not pass out like before. In fact I felt great unless I overexerted myself, then I was short of breath. I am regulated on coumadin at 5mg with no side effects. My dilemma is that we have a trip to Australia booked for Feb. 18 and I am worried about the long flight. My Doctor, recommends that I do not go that soon but would give into professional advice. I need to let the travel agents know about cancellation by Dec. 22 or I lose my money. My precaution for the flight would be as follows.
1. Coumadin
2. Prescription stockings
3. Aisle seat-walk every hour
4. Exercise legs while sitting down
5. Drink lots of water
6. Take shots of Fagmin (heprin)

Yahoo Answers is not the best place for that kind of advice, other than to tell you that you should be getting exactly what you mentioned: PROFESSIONAL advice. If you want a second opinion, GET ONE. Find another doctor and tell them your history and concerns, and ask for their recommendation.
Good luck getting your answer before your cancellation deadline. That is a LOOOOOONG flight (I'm assuming you're in N. America) to be on if clots are an issue for you. I would also recommend talking to the airline to see if they can adequately handle any problems that may arise (especially if you're already hours away from land). I don't know how unusual that kind of questioning is, but it can't hurt to be cautious.

You should be discussing these questions with your doctor. You are paying big bucks for his/her advice. Perhaps you should follow it. Coumadin needs to be monitored on a regular basis and I wonder how you will get that done in a strange country. Also, rapid changes in pressure that you will experience on an airplane may have detrimental effects and throwing a blood clot on an airplane may not be a first choice in places for one to happen. Call you doctor and stick with his advice.

How previous is she? Does she has different scientific issues? Now i'm scared some important surgical treatment that I even have in a pair of weeks. Ask her surgeon while that is secure for her to fly lower back homestead. He could desire to provide you a greater precise answer.

I think it has been long enough, but if you doctor disagrees then maybe you should cancel the trip.
