We paid cash for a car at a dealership & they filed Bankruptcy HELP!?
We bought a used car at a dealership, paid cash, and they were going to have the title mailed to us.
After a month when we didn't receive it, they gave us another 30 day temp plate.
A week later we received a letter from their lawyer stating they have filed bankruptcy! We bought a used vehicle from them before and had no problems~!
The cars are gone.. there is no furniture in the building and the phones have been disconnected!
We have the car in the driveway.. but can't drive it as we can't get the registration without the title!
UGH! SO frustrating!
We can't get out title! Any ideas?

Go to the title company in your area and they may be able to help you. Tell them the problem as the car should have been registered in the company name or contact the lawyer that sent you the letter and ask him how to obtain a title to the vehicle. Otherwise you can also contact a personal attorney on this matter.

You should consult an attorney. I wouldn't believe they filed bankruptcy until I verified it with the bankruptcy court. It is easy to verify this, you go to the dealership's district (assuming they are incorporated or situated in your locale it is wherever you are), there will be a phone number you can call, plus you can use pacer (it requires an account but it's only 8cents a page and if all you are doing is verifying they filed, it should only cost you 8 cents). An attorney can do this for you. But you already know who their attorney is, you need to have an attorney correspond with their attorney, as there is NO reason why they can't turn over the title. Filing bankruptcy doesn't mean you don't get your title, and if there is a bankruptcy, you go through the bankruptcy to get it turned over, otherwise you would have to go to small claims court in your jurisdiction.

Hello! People! Stop wasting time, energy, effort and sheer stupidity into how to waste a car salespersons time! THEY DON'T CARE HOW YOU PAY! THE FACT THAT YOU PAY CASH OR FINANCE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW MUCH ANYONE GETS PAID! DEAL WITH IT! Car salespeople are professional negotiators and have likely sold more cars in the last thirty days than you've purchased in your lives! GET SOME REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS! The car is not going to be half off because your "paying" cash which usually means your writing a check which usually means the dealer has to wait 10 days for your check to clear. New cars cost money. Dealers are going to make a profit. You are not more clever than the other 120 million people who buy new cars every year. If you were truly intelligent you would buy a new car with 0% financing availiable, put your money into a money market account and earn a yield of around 10% on your hard earned cashola.

What kind of car is it? What year is it? is it worth going through the hassle? If it is, file a police report and go to the DMV with all of your paperwork from the dealership and apply for a duplicate title.

Contact their lawyer, the one who sent you the letter, and ask about your title. If you have your receipts it should not be a problem.
