I want to find out how to use some of the characters in the symbols repetoire, how to find them is a mystery!?

Is there a simple way to access a display of the characters available in the "symbols" font?? Please advise.

    Most of them are made using a combination of the ALT key and various numbers.

    For example, a ♥ is made by holding down the ALT key and hitting the number 3 on your numbers keypad.
