Call one of the credit agencies - Experian, Equifax...
Tell them what happened, and ask them to put a red flag on her account. That way if anyone tries to use her # for anything, she will be notified and what ever is being applied for will be turned down.
If the wrong person has her ss#, it doesn't matter how old she is ("who's going to pull off being 87?") they can open credit accounts in her name, over the phone or computer, so it no one would be the wiser. This is messy, so call as soon as you can.

I dont think they use the SS# anymore, unless she had her actual Social Security card in her wallet. I wouldnt worry too much. Who's going to pull off pretending to be 87 anyway?
