We had 2 doctors in my practice up until about 3 months ago. The owner was the one I was originally hired by and who I first started with in this practice, but he hired this younger guy and then took about 1 1/2 yrs. off to travel. The younger guy, who was only about 31 when he was hired, was VERY moody. He had a bad temper and liked to yell and curse at us. It didn't matter how small the mistake or problem was, or even if you had actually even done anything wrong, he would fly off the handle at every little thing. I can't count the number of times me or one of the other girls would go in the back and cry after he had yelled or cursed at us. He was constantly repremanding us in front of patients. But when he needed something from us, like working late or coming in on the weekend, he became really nice. I finally got so sick of his attitude that I put in my notice. This was about the same time that the owner came back to work and he asked me to let him talk to this other guy and see it that helped. I don't know what he said, but this other dentist left me alone after that.

They ended up having a falling out a few months ago, and the younger guy left to open his own practice. I refused to go work for him, even though he had the nerve to ask me to. The owner is now back working full time and he is very respectful of all his staff and tells us constantly how much he appriciates us. He very rarely gets irritated with us, and if he does, he calmly tells us what the problem is.

He has since brought in a new dentist, who we are "trying out" to see if we like him and he is also a very nice, calm guy. I dont think I would every have to worry about this guy yelling at us either.

I know exactly what you mean about moody dentists though.

****By the way, I would NEVER work in an office where the wife/girlfriend/fiance worked there too. Been there, done that, and ain't going back!

Actually, my boss is fun, easy-going, a practical joker, a 'listener', supports my CE's, compassionate (especially with the elderly and the 'special needs' population), only moody for a short time on Monday mornings after a late night of football Sunday night!

Can I assume his/her spouse doesn't work in the office? ;-)
