It's quite an old essay, we outlived his predicted doomsday. He still has supporters who claim the date is just pushed far back.
I don't put a lot of faith in it. Since then, we've had the Green Revolution; improved farming and fertilizer methods to grow far more crops than before. Famine is still a problem in places like Africa and South Asia, but I don't think it will be a global one.
