If you have lost or forgetten the XP administrator password, first reboot Windows XP in safe mode by re-starting the computer and pressing F8 repeated as the computer starts up. Then (in safe mode) click Start and then click Run. In the open box type "control userpasswords2" without the quotes.
You will now have access to all the user accounts, including the administrators account and will be able to reset the lost password.
Just click the administrators user account, and then click Reset Password.
You will need to add a new password in the New password and the Confirm new password boxes, and confirm by clicking OK.
All done, you have recovered the lost administrators password!

If you brought your computer from the company you work for. Then the next time you go to work, tell the person who dealt with the sale what you have told us. Surely, they are duty bound to sort your problem out for you.
Read Daniel C's post.....
And for the benefit of anyone else who has this problem. With a Windows XP machine....the fix is very simple. You only have to push 3 keys on your keyboard to get a window up on the screen that would allow you into user accounts. And from there change or even delete the administrator password.
So you DO NOT need to reinstall the OS or anything like that.
Sorry....But I agree with Daniel C

Your story might be true, it might not. I'm still not going to show you how to bypass security.
Your company needs to send this 3rd-party company a polite informing them that they cannot hold the PC's hostage. There is loads and loads of caselaw on this. Thus MUST give up the administrator passwords or be liable for whatever damages the client says it is costing him.

goto start
click run
type "cmd" without the quotes. this will open dos mode.
if the name of the user (or administrator) is "administrator" then type this at the prompt....
net user administrator *
you can replace "administrator" with any of the users' names on that computer.
it will then prompt you for a new password. you type the password and then again to confirm it. reboot the computer and sign into the admin with your newly created password.
(NOTE: you will not see any letters being typed on the screen while you are typing the passwords)

Not an easy task ! Best thing to do is get a copy of windows and do a reinstall. But first log on with any account you can and check if you have a limited or admin account. If its limited see step 1

There's a program you can get on CD called 'ERD commander'. Get this (or an equivalent) and boot from it. It will boot into a windows-style desktop which has a password-resetter built-in.
