Happy Christmas VS Merry Christmas?

Why do they call it "Happy Christmas" in the UK, and "Merry Christmas" in the states?

(even though now we say "Happy Holidays")

I'm not too sure, I wasn't aware there was that big of a difference between the two places... I always thought it was like, people who wanted to be particularly anti religious about it, or wanted to remain androgynous, in a religious sense said Happy Christmas, and traditionalists and Christians say Merry Christmas....

Some of them think us atheists shouldn't be allowed to say Merry Christmas... Lol, they better start getting all the major blood sucking corporations to stop saying it too then huh?

People who are particularly anti the whole thing say Happy Holidays anyway.... So I'm not sure, I guess it depends on the person?

I say Merry Christmas, and am not religious, but I suppose I am a traditionalist when it comes to Christmas time :)

(Also, I agree with Summer, we are all way too PC, get over it people, get out there and offend someone, you might even enjoy it!)

Because it takes place in a different time and they dont just want it to be Merry they want it to be cheerful and happy.

    By the way Merry X-mas

We DON'T all say 'Happy Holidays'! I still say "Merry Christmas"! All this 'politically correct' crap has gotten so far out of hand, it's ridiculous! I'm not one of those who's jumped on that politically correct bandwagon, so I'll continue saying "Merry Christmas to one and all"!
