Can high fevers result in brain damage?

This happened quite a few times before and I doubt it is coincidence.

At one point in my life, I developed a high fever over 105 and I started to go 'stupid' (I couldn't do anything i would normally do, couldn't think- at all, was confused, freaking out). As soon as the fever died down, I returned back to normal.

The same thing happened to my dad yesterday.

He also developed a high fever and he was acting very strange. He wouldn't respond to anyone, and couldn't walk, remember anyone, and he also freaked out.

Is this a symptom of the fever?

Could this cause permanent brain damage?

Update:

It turned out my dad did have a fever.

108

Update 2:

Thank you so much to all that answered

Yes, High Fevers can cause one to become Dilerious/'Dilerium'

    Dilerium:

1 : an acute mental disturbance characterized by confused thinking and disrupted attention usually accompanied by disordered speech and hallucinations

However, once the Fever subsides so does the Delirum....hopefully your Fever hasn't been to long and Damage hasn't been too bad by then!

it's possible....high fevers will cause people to have seizures as well. you need to take him to the doctor in case there is any damage....and remember the next time you or your dad is running a high fever, take an asprin. it's dangerous, as you already know.

yes a high fever can - that's why its important to gradually cool the person down. Take off their outer clothing and let them cool naturally. Cooling them too fast will make them shiver which wears them out and defeats the purpose anyway.

Generally, any fever of 106 or higher, is very dangerous.

Brain damage, and other problems often occur.
