Could a black hole form near Earth?

Black holes can form any where in the galaxy. If so what makes planets safe from being absorbed by one?

I don't know of a way black holes could form near Earth, but black holes could come near Earth. There are roaming black holes and possibly even micro-black holes that drift through interstellar space. Unfortunately, if a black hole came our way we wouldn't be safe from it. if it came into our solar system we would certainly be pulled into it.

Its incredibly unlikely one will ever come this way since the space between stars as so vast. In fact, stars are so far apart that even if our galaxy collided with whole galaxy of black holes we probably wouldn't be sucked in by any. There are some in our galaxy though and of course, there's a super-massive black hole in the center of our galaxy.

There is no known process that could produce a large black hole close enough to the Earth to have any significant gravitational effect on us. That means that if a black hole did form, it would almost certainly be a very small one and thus would explode almost immediately, before it could cause any harm to anyone due to its gravity.

No. Black holes only form from collapsed stars. Our Sun still has a lot of life left in it. Were safe.

NO WAY! No black holes are scheduled to form near Earth!

If a black hole could exist it would require the collapse of a star at least twice the mass of our sun.

There is no chance of such an entity menacing the earth.

A black hole requires something of large mass, and therfore large gravity to collapse in on itself. The only thing close enough is the sun, although mini black holes can formed in the particle acclerators

Answer is no. No celestial body is large enough and close enough to Earth to possible cause a stellar eruption. The Sun itself could explode and we'd get zip.

And no, being sucked into a black hole would not be fun.

    read more on black holes.

they are formed from collapsed stars.

and even then, only certain forms of starts to begin with.

i only know of one star close to earth.

i dont think it's anywhere close to becoming a black hole, so no need to worry.

    go drink some rum.

    Time and Gravity.

Since black holes are a long time

away from anything else in the universe.

And gravity is a long space away

    from anything in a laser.

That would be so cool to be sucked into a black hole.
