What percentage of Americans believe the Earth is 6000 to 10000 years old?

Is this figure increasing or decreasing, and how can this fallacy be sustained?

Its a belief based on social pressure, not on science. It can be sustained as long as the social pressure can be maintained.

Fortunately it does NOT stand up to scientific scrutiny. Did someone say "Carbon Dating"?

110% believe it is of that age. 640% believe it is much older.

Approximately 8/3's of all Americans are really bad at math and can't even do basic fractions.

    Both figures are increasing......

How about this alarming figure - the weight of the earth is constantly increasing, and has since it first cooled down! Doubt me? Well.... the earth is constantly bombarded with tiny and not so tiny meteorites every day. Adds up to tons of weight each day. Maybe this is pushing the earth closer to the sun, causing glow-ball climate change... not man-made after all!

May you be touched by the noodley appendage of the FSM!

I've read that about half of all Americans accept Genesis as a literal expression of how the earth was created.

I think most Americans do not measure it in years, but do understand that the earth is very, very old. If creation science is teaching that the earth is 10,000 years old, that is a flat out lie.
