Vacation pictures were put on a dvd instead of a cd....PLEASE HELP!?
My wife and I took over a hundred irreplacable pictures last year and we cannot print the pictures with our computer. I really need help from someone with computer skills. These are not movies...just pictures. They play in my dvd player as a slide show. When I put the disk in my computer I get the prompt "Windows cannot open this file, needs to know what program created it" I don't know the answer!
Is there a way to load the images back to my computer so I can print these pictures? My computer skills are very limited so I need simple and step-by-step instructions. I hope someone reading this will know what I should do. Thanks for your help and have a safe and happy holiday season.

Does your computer have a DVD ROM or RW drive installed ? If not you will need one perhaps your DVD player is one that can be hooked to a computer as a external drive { see your manual on the DVD player for more information } then go to www.AVS4YOU.com and download any software you may need in the free version if you need advice IM me and I will talk you through the downloads . The programs are simple to use and you can play with them until you do understand how they work ! Since your computer is showing that notice from windows I assume that the disk was not made on your computer if I am wrong then click close on the notice and then start -- run -- then browse -- and select the DVD drive it will show a date for the file and possibly mpeg after the date -- after that click OK and you should be able to see the pictures . Good luck !

Do you happen to remember what program you used when you copied them in a download to your computer? Just wondered. Load the dvd in your dvd-rom drive. Windows may pop up a 'window' asking," What you wish Windows to do with this?", and will give you some options. I suggest clicking on the red x in the right hand corner, and closing this. Click on My Computer. When the screen opens, click on the the name of the dvd you have put in,(next to dvd drive). Go up to the left, and click on Copy. When it asks you, copy it to your My Documents folder. When it's done, take the disk out. Now,(WindowsXP), go to Start>My Documents, and click on it. When this window opens, and is fully loaded, double-click on the name of the photo album. In this window go up to the left,(you do have the printer on, right?),click on Print Pictures. Your printer software will guide you thru the rest! Happy holidays to you too! EDIT: IT IS a dvd player in your computer? Don't know, and it doesn't say on the front of the drive, or computer face? Then go to My Computer, click, and under, 'Devices with Removable Storage' , does it list a dvd drive (D:), (or any other drive letter), or does it list CD drive? As you know CD-rom drives won't play DVD's. Go to Walmart, buy a Lite-On Dvd-RW, (comes with Nero 'burning' software) This is a Dvd 'burner', for around $50. Install it, or buy a 3.5/5.5 combo external enclosure from Directron.com,(I've seen them for $19.95) and use it to hook up to a USB port on your computer.

It may be that the computer is only a CD player, not a DVD player. If this is the case, you need to find a computer that has a DVD player.
Good luck. I can't imagine the heartache you must be facing right now, so - good luck.
