Vacation pictures were put on a dvd instead of a cd....PLEASE HELP!?
My wife and I took over a hundred irreplaceable vacation / family pictures last year and we cannot print the pictures with our computer. I really need help from someone with computer skills. These are not movies, just pictures . They play in my T.V.'s dvd player as a slide show. When I put the disk in my computer I get the prompt "Windows cannot open this file, needs to know what program created it" I don't know the answer! Originally I got the pictures to the computer by inserting my SD memory card in my computers card reader, from there they were burned to a dvd not a cd. I have a CD Writer and a DVD-RW in my computer. I also have a program (1 Click DVD) installed on my computer.
Is there a way to load the images (from the dvd) back to my computer so I can print these pictures? My computer skills are very limited so I need simple and step-by-step instructions. I hope someone reading this will know what I should do. Thanks for your help and have a safe and happy holiday season.

Sounds like the disc was made as a data file on the DVD. You can find lots of free down loadable software on the Internet that will allow you to convert the data disc back onto your hard drive. to view and print. Here is another route.
1. If you have a video card you can play the disc from your DVD player back onto your computer and capture it as a video slide show. Once done you can use a video editor to do screen captures and prints of your pictures.

Try browsing the DVD to see what's on there. Go to My Computer and right click the DVD drive icon, then choose Explore. Check inside folders if there are any. The pics will show up somewhere. Then copy them to your hard drive.
In the future:
Copy your pics to your hard drive first in a safe known location, then create whatever DVD you want to make.
If you wish to store them on DVD make a data DVD of the pics as backup, which can be read by any Windows PC with a DVD reader, regardless of software installed.
DVDs can have different applications. Data storage, slideshows, movies, they are all different. Learn the differences and how to manipulate files and folders in general using your memory stick and your hard drive before you ruin or lose any more invaluable photos.
