This has been a problem forever.

When evil has as much rights as good; then evil gets away with doing more evil.

Finding the balance between total freedom and a safe curtailment of freedom to protect the good citizens has been the goal of democratic governments for many years. I believe we are still looking for the balance.

No, freedom is meant to be, well freedom. Saying "If we do this, restricting your freedom, it will make you more free here" Is ridiculous.

Any nation that would sacrifice a little freedom for a little security, will gain neither, and lose both.

I think Ben Franklin said it best:

"Those that give up some freedoms to achieve more security, deserve neither freedom nor security".

Sounds like a contradiction in terms.
