I quite understand why JK gave him a German surname but why a Hungarian first name? What do you think?

She probably isn't an expert on where names come from and just thought that it sounded appropriate.

Its just a name, whats the bet she looked up a random first name and then either looked in obscure dictionaries for random words that sound good, or just make it up completely, either way, i'm sure she didn't intentionally set it up as a sub plot or something.

He could have had family that was Hungarian, like his mother could have been Hungarian but his father German.
Or the author didn't mind/know.

He could have had family from both places. My last name is German but I have an Irish first name.

ummm. it doesnt really matter anymore, does it? i mean, i ave an english first name, but im filipino-chinese. how do you know he wasnt mixed??
and. the origins of names can get iffy sometimes. different sources will tell you different places for the same name.
