BMW 328i--- is the Navigation system worth the money?

I think that the navigation is worth it. It's a $2100 option and you are getting the upgraged (more teched out) dash with an I-Drive screen and controller. It pretty much interfaces the whole car on that screen. Instead of screwing around trying to figure out what the little pictures in your instrument cluster mean while pressing the BC button on the turn signal, you get all the settings, messages and explanations on the idrive. The navigation itself includes real time traffic updates with alternate routes which isn't included in a lot of portable nav units. As for entertainment purposes, the new 328's all have i-pod and usb ports so all you need to do is plug in your music source and use the i-drive to scroll easily through your folders on the screen. If you also get the $350 HD radio option you are going to see detailed information about the current songs that are playing, its so cool. There are all kinds of settings for your car/key memory, climate control options, service due indicators and bluethooth phone options that are all brought together and made accessible with the I-drive. You will need to spend some time learning how to use it but I think its well worth it. Don't get the aftersales BMW naviagtion unit, all that is is a $500 overpriced Garmin unit that gets screwed to the dash. Do it right and get the I-drive up front. I ordered it on my 335i coupe.

People criticize the iDrive System so much that BMW should just take it away. I have a 5-Series and an X3 and they both have the navigation. Though the X3 is an '07, it has the old navigation system while the '06 5-Series has the iDrive. I can honestly say that I love iDrive. The critics criticize it so much because they never have the time to get used to it. I took 1 Hour out of my life to get acquainted with it. The old system is not very complex nor very simple.

Sure you can get a nav for 300, and they are very good. But now you have something sticking up out of the dash and you lose everything the idrive provides. If you are leasing, it is residualized so it's not that much money.
With factory nav, your phone book is laid out better, your ipod accesability is easier, there are these wonderful programable shortcut keys on the dvd and on the steering wheel. It's worth it, go for it.

I have a 335i with navigation and it has helped me a few times. It tells you if there is a accident and traffic, but I never think about using it when I need to.

no way, you could get portable GPS for less than $300 and they're only gonna get cheaper as the years go by. the GPS that comes with the car will only get more and more outdated even if you update the maps.
