Is Boston as racist as some people claim it is?

I have black friends from Boston and they call it the "Mississippi of the North(east). I heard the city was very segregated and has some major race issues. Oh yeah I just saw The Departed

No it's not. I am black and it's not racist.

It used to be in the 70's...I heard (I wasn't living here at that time)...but No, it is not a racist city...and by the way, the Governor of Massachusetts is black...he won over a white woman by a landslide...it wasn't even close.

One more thing, if you watched the Departed, it started by saying "Many years ago"

    2) There were a lot of racial insults in the Departed ,,,not just against blacks but against latinos and Irish too...I remember some of them...lace-curtain Irish kid (that's a racial term), I remember one against Puerto-Ricans.

I am black and it is still one of my favorite movies.

Once a while, is there going to be a jerk that treats you bad because of the color your skin? Of course...but what city in America aren't there jerks like that?

    Hi,

I grew up in Boston in the 1970s and those were the racist times. Boston has become a welcoming city to all people. Yes, like any city, it has ethnic neighbourhoods and people of all colors can travel freely without getting "jumped".

As an African American, I have seen my city grow and I travel to any neighbourhood without fear.

I live in Massachusetts and i am not racist. I know of only 2 couples that are racist and they are rude and ignorant. I find that the blacks are more racist than the Caucasians and the Asians think every race except their own is worthless.

Let me put it this way, anyone can go to the white neighborhoods and China Town, but whites can't go to the black neighborhoods without getting jumped or worse. So that tells you who is really racist
