1989 honda prelude idles high. can someone help?
i just recently bought a 1989 honda prelude and ever since i got it ive noticed that the idle is always in the 1200-1300rpm is this normal? what can i do to fix it or do i have to take it to a mechanic, and finally if i do have to take it to a shop how expensive will it be?
o and i forot to put it is a 5spd manual fuel injected 4wsand it idles at those rpms when it is in neutral or at a stop in gear
when its cold it idles at alittle over 2000 rpm and when it warms up its normal idle is 1200-1300 rpm

After the engine's hot it should idle at 750 RPM. The computer controls the Idle Air Control (IAC) solenoid to regulate the idle speed. So you need to clean your throttle plate and bore as well as the IAC valve. Of course you could have a vacuum leak which would cause a higher idle because your oxygen sensor tries to correct any excess air leakage by injecting more fuel into your engine.
