when did your baby have tears from crying?

My daughter is 9 1/2 months old, she is a very happy baby but when she tries to walk and fall she will cry, or when she is upset she will cry, but there are no tears, is this normal?

It can be anywhere for shortly up to birth to one years old. The tear ducts are often slow to develop or may be clogged. If babies eyes are normally clear in the morning and there is no redness in the corners of her eyes (Both corners of each eye) then she is probably fine. Just mention it at her next check up. If she has really gunky eyes in the morning or her eyes look like they have red around them all the time then you will want to call your pediatrician soon as they open again. There could be the possibility they are clogged and can cause infection/discomfort. However the tear ducts are also used to lubricate the eye so if they were clogged I think you would have noticed something wrong by now. Some babies just don't shed tears as easily, she's probably saving them for the first time she asks for the car keys and you say no!

that is so cute! I had forgotten about the tearless crying thing!! I'm pretty sure by about 12-18mths they start to cry real tears when they are scared or hurt. But it is very normal for her to cry 'crocodile tears' as we call the tearless crying, at this age.

    best of luck
