My IP address changing every time I restart my computer?

I'm living in country "Sri Lanka" My service provider is Sri Lanka Telecom limited and they gave me 24 hour ADSL connection.I'm using "US Robotics router" to connect internet. I recognize every time I restart my computer My IP address changing.Does it mean

my identity secret for ever in internet? Just imagine when I send a bad email (Spam) to some body in the world can he identify me? Does IP address is the only way to identify a computer user?

The IP address that the public sees is the one assigned to you by your ISP. This address is either static (meaning it stays the same) or it is dynamic (meaning that occasionally some of the end numbers MAY change). If you have a dynamic ip address then depending on your ISP your IP may change when you reboot your modem, or it may change every 24 hours, or it may stay the same for weeks at a time, or never change. You can attempt to force it to change by turning off the modem and actually unplugging everything and rebooting. Or by typing (at a command prompt) ipconfig /renew all If you are using a router then you are being assigned a private IP address that is usually something like 192.168.*.* or 10.*.*.* these have nothing to do with what the outside world sees. If you are banned on ebay I suggest you contact safe harbor directly and ask them to unban you. Setting up a new account will still require you to add your banking information or cc number and if that's the same you will still be banned.

The IP address you use at any time is logged by your ISP, and they will give your details to the authorities if you break the law. Also if you are reported for spamming or other illegal activities they have the right to terminate your connection. Also your MAC address on the machine is recorded. This never changes. Do NOT spam.

ur service provider has provided u a dynamic IP address. If u want a permanent IP then ask ur ISP to provide a static IP, but it can cost u more in ur rental.

and yes u can be identified if u do something wrong on net or email.

This just means that your ip is pulled by DHCP which is random pull. If someone wants to know where you have been, they can find out. This does not mean your ip is "secret". And yes, if you send out spam your ip address is your address on the internet. Regardless of whether it is static or dynamic, it is trackable.

    Your Correct Answer.

Your computer gets its IP from a DHCP server, Every time you reset your computer (your computer is out of reach), After pass a specified time (this time is Independent to that DHCP server) your IP will be lost, and when you come back that DHCP server will lease an another IP to your computer.

If you want to have a static IP, You must visit the Administrator of that ISP to reserve a specified IP for you, In this situation every time you come back your computer gets only that specified IP address.

It's normal that your provider (ISP) gives you a random IP address; he shares his limited IP addresses to his clients.

Nevertheless it has nothing to do with your identification.

I will try to explain it:

The IP address is assigned to your provider.... so it's easy to track "that" IP address back to your ISP. Than your ISP keeps track who is logging on his systems or via his systems (subscribers) back to whom you are or anyway who is paying the bill.

Technically the IP package has the visible known address and between brackets: the port number and your NIC address (network card) among other identifications.

your ISP can tell whose owe specific IP address in specific time.

i think it is OK that you have different IP address whenever u restart your PC cuz every time your provider give u a unique IP address between you and ISP and doing nating to change that IP to another one between ISP and other internet sites

if that is what u have then u do not really have a real IP.

Yup you can change :) you can use the HMA VPA Pro Software to Change IP Address every time but you need internet connection for that

    hey

it has less to do with ur router and more to do w ur service provider

Your service provider has provided u w dynamic IP. Which means, it will change randomly. There is no garuntee when it will.

And yes they can still trace back if you do something real bad. So dont do!
