I have a problem with my 1995 Ford Escort. I think the bands may need to be tightend or the clutch is going?

bad. It was hesitating in changing into second gear when I would take my foot off the gas pedal it would change. It is parked now but I can not get the gear shift to move it is locked. Is there something I can do to get it unlocked. If I have to take it to get repaired can some one give me a ballpark figure on cost. Oh yeah it is automatic.

Update:

I would like to know if this would be the drive shaft or just the transmission or both.

Prolly a bad tranny-the 'driveshaft(s)' are your half-shafts, nothing to lock them up outside of the transmission.

I have a 95 Escort Lx that had it's transmission replaced recently-junkyard cost was $300 plus installation.

Installation can run upwards of $500, mine was cheap at only $300. The car features a pretty weak auto transmission-perhaps you will look into replacing it with a manual.

Always important to ensure proper fluid level in automatic trannys!\

    Good Luck!

mmdjaajl: 1. Auto transmissions have clutch packs inside them. 2. Look up a Clutch/Turbo or a Clutch/Flite, they are an auto trans for drag racing that utilize a clutch pedal! A.K.A. "Poor man's Lenco" another auto with a clutch pedal! You said you wanted to see one, how about THREE!?!

Now, on to the answer, change the fliud/filter, have the bands adjusted, then look for a TV cable or modulator to be checked. Your 95 will have one OR the other, not too hot on Escort configurations.

Anyway, the trans is the most neglected part of a car, a basic service and tune should help.
