After receiving a violation for an answer have you ever been afraid to answer another question?

I received my first violation on Christmas eve for answeing LOL to a question asking what do you think about this joke? Now I am half afraid to answer any other questions. I was told that the violation was given to me by a staff member!

I am sorry that you received this violation. Try not to be hurt. Keep on answering questions. I have received several violations myself. I was ashamed when I received my first one and very hurt because I did not think I violated anything. I was very cautious in my answers after that. Now I know that I did not do anything wrong. I have never been hurtful or disrespectful and I am sure that you haven't either! Keep your chin up. The hurt feeling shall pass. Answer questions and vote on open questions to regain lost points.

When I received my first violation notice, I got angry, because I thought I didn't deserve it. When I got the 2nd notice, I checked the Community Guidelines and found out that I did indeed not follow the rules. You see, there are millions of Yahoo users, and in order for such a large community to function, you simply must have a general set of rules. If Yahoo had moderators, they could decide on special occasions whether a violation is indeed a violation or not. But Yahoo is a Q&A platform without moderators, so sometimes it doesn't work the way users like it to. Anyway - in order to get a violation notice, somebody must have reported you and although YA says that they check every abuse report individually, I highly doubt that they have the manpower to do so. So please, check the guidelines again and again and don't let those point-deductions get you down! It didn't discourage me neither and since a couple of weeks I'm the leader of the board in my homecountry (I'm a German grandmother)...:-)

why be afraid honey ? Its not like they can take away your Birthday. Just read up on the guide lines a bit and youll be okay.

your violation probably fell under the "answering the question with 3 words or less" catagory, which is a trick of point gatherers .You know !like the guy that runs through a hundred questions and gives answers like YES ,NO and 42! just to get the 2 points. I understand that otherwise people will take advantage, but I thought in your case LOL was a perfectly acceptable response to a Joke. What ? they expect you to expound or wax philosophic about a joke? come on!---------

well anyway dont let them chase you away .

    Merry Christmas ><>

No. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Usually they would like an actual answer and that's probably the reason you received a violation.

I have received violations I have challenged, some of which were changed and some of which were allowed to remain violations. I have also given answers I knew could result in violations. It's not like they are going to confiscate your computer.

Ge ahead and answer the way you feel best about answering. Chances are all will be fine.

It didn't make me afraid to answer more but I did learn not to respond in anger or by asking a question as my answer. I have managed to maintain my account with only 2 violations for answers and had one question deleted that was considered chatting because of comments made in later edits. Just keep answering-most won't be a problem with anyone and you may be able to help someone with a solution to a real problem or two.

We all have received violations notice for one thing or another. That is no reason, not to ask or answer question. Yahoo, did not cancel you out. So, just be careful how you ask and answer questions. Some questions, I avoid because I don't want to say anything some people may take the wrong way.

It doesn't even make sense as to why you would receive a violation for "Lol." How silly. I wonder if they accidentally reported you instead of another answerer?

As long as you know you did nothing wrong, then don't worry about it!

I agree with the guy that said they need to have "real" people monitoring this site, instead of giving violations simply because of two "report it"s.

Afraid...of what? Losing points that have no value...an account that is free and can be re started in 6 seconds. Yahoo answers site is one of the best. However until they stop being so cheap and hire HUMANS to moderate and police the site these BS problems will persist.

So answer away Mable and do not fear that pimpled face staff member making $7.50. He is just bored with life and has a quota to fill. Merry Christmas
