Follow these steps...
1) Insert > Sound from file
2) Choose the file you want to use, and click OK.
3) Click "Automatically" when prompted with "How do you want..."
4) You will see a small speaker icon on the slide... go to "Slideshow > Custom Animation"
5) You should be able to find under "Modify:Play" a small insert of the song you want to play.
6) Right click on it (the file's name) and click "Effect Options"
7) A dialog box should open, under the heading "Stop Playing" choose how many slides you want it to play through... just choose a number that is more than the slides you have, for convenience.
That should do it.

when you add a song on a power point and want it to go through the whole show, first you place the song on the first slide, then you right click the little speaker thing and it should say something that involves how long you want the song to be and on how many slides. if that doesn't work then try somewhere in the tool bar. i hope this information helps.
