How do you make a desk higher?
Hello there
unfortunatley ive got a desk which is quite low
i needed a good desk because the old has a bee shelf [dont know how to say it in english but it has like a big shelf conected with categorized boards etc] which makes you look down if you need to use the computer and you cannot get the monitor higher in the height which is needed
on the other hand the new desk has free space above the computer so i can get it in a high enough place needed but the desk is a few cms lower [3-5], i do understand in might sound a little silly but for the hands feeling is quite a difference , in the old one you could use it for hours and handwise doesnt hurt or anything but on the new one every hour spent on the computer makes the pinky and the the finger next to it [dunno how to say it in english, anyway the one between the pinky and the middle finger] quite numb while holding stuff ,i know there is this carpell tunnel syndrom and i dont want any syndroms for using the computer
wanted to know if there is any patent or anything to make it higher surface for using the computer desk, btw the desk is like one wood board placed on two wood board [i mean by the way its placed and drilled together]
and i do wanted to know if you got a good idea because i have and ideal chair whic is quite high and if i use the computer i need my hands to be quite streched to lay streched on the desk paralel to it [

blocks of wood usually work. a good DIY or hardware store probably has custom "height-raising" appliances to make it look more professional, but it is essentially the same thing.

Normally there is nothing you can do to change the height of a desk. Some might have little legs at the bottom that you can screw/unscrew to change the height of the desk by a small amount. (They are actually intended to level the desk, so they usually only adjust the desk by a tiny amount.
If you can not adjust the desk. then put something under the keyboard to raise it bit. Also they make a variety of different stands that you can put under a monitor to raise it up.

the finger you meant is usually called the "ring finger". As to desk height adjustment, it usually isn't done. It cannot be done easily. You can raise the keyboard by putting something on the desk like books or whatever, but the desk is pretty well all it is ever going to be. You could raise the desk by putting some things under the feet of the desk. Books, bricks, cinder blocks, something. Not a great solution, but still a solution.
You could do a lot of work and change the legs and raise the desk, but it is really a lot of work and likely will be as costly as changing desks completely. It is not like there is a supply of longer legs for your desk that you can just go out and buy, after all. You will have to make them.
You can remake the desk to fit your needs, if you are good at that sort of work. But for most people, the best choice is "get a new desk and make sure it is the proper desk for you before buying it this time". Sell the one you have now to someone who wants a desk of that height or who won't be smart enough to plan ahead and see if it is the right height before taking it.
