75' pontiac sport coupe, had tranny rebuilt, it sat up for 2 years without being started, will not go in gear.

tranny has about 1,000 miles on it before it sat up for two years. i got it running but when i try to put it into gear it doesnt even try to go into any of the gears. was wondering what could be wrong. fluid is just as pink as can be, and isnt low.

Update:

i let it run for about 20 min.,even let it sit and run in gear, still nothing. i have heard after awile of sitting without being run will cause the bands and rubber parts to dryrot inside the tranny. just need to know if rebuild is my only option.

How long did you let the car run? Try letting everything warm up to operating temperature and then shift it into gear. You may have to rev the engine a few times. It should slowly start to grab.

If that fails, try adding Berryman B-12 Chemtool (available at any parts store) into the transmission filler. About one bottle should be enough. Let the engine idle a few minutes to circulate the fluid throughout the transmission. Try shifting into gear. If it grabs, drive it around for a few miles and then change the fluid.
