Did anyone see a bright meteor on Christmas evening?
Driving north on I-69 near Marshall, MI, I saw a bright meteor just after 6pm Eastern Time. It travelled from NW, about 45 degrees up, to slightly east of north about 20 degrees up, then disappeared. It was fairly slow-moving, visible for about 5 seconds.
Possibly a old satellite de-orbiting? Anyone else see this?

Meteors can occur at any time, so it was very likely a meteor. But they are relatively local events, not usually visible for more than about 50 miles.
People further than that distance wouldn't have seen it.
During the Geminid meteor shower (which occured earlier in December), the meteors travel at medium speed (only about 22 miles per second). This makes them easy to see and they will last a few seconds.
So you could have seen a late straggler from that shower (or an early arrival of the Quadrantid shower which is the first week of January).

I dont know if this is the same one. But I did see something like a meteor about 2 days ago. It was about for a second and then disappeared.
