Just make sure you get the premium console, it has everything you need to get started. xbox live gold is so you can play with other players online for 50 bucks a year. with xbox live silver you can download demos, movies and other stuff at no charge. No extra memory is needed to play games, premium console has a 20 gb hard drive.
