Epidural & Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance?
I will be 35 weeks tomorrow and plan to visit my Anesthesiologist soon to plan for my epidural. I was told I will need to provide my insurance information and fill out a form as well pay a co-pay required by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia.
I was wondering of anyone here has ever paid this co-pay and not been able to receive an epidural (like for instance if you are too fat dialted to receive one). Are you refunded the co-pay? I am afraid if I don't it it pre-approved (by paying the co-pay and filling out the paperwork), my insurance may charge me more for the procedure...like 20%. I would rather risk losing $91.50 (co-pay) than lose over $200.00.
Thanks!
Thanks ladies...I just called and this is the deal...I will actually have to meet my annual deductible first $250.00 and then I will be resposible for 20%. I kinda wish my little guy would come a bit early since we have already met the deductible for this year.

I believe if you pay for a service that was not rendered, the money would either be applied to any other additional copay you needed for your hospitalization, or it would be refunded to you.
Call your insurance company to ask them - they are the ones who will tell you what their policy is.

You should call BCBS to find out for sure. Are you paying a co-pay just for the epidural or for the entire procedure of childbirth?
I would definitely call the insurance company for clarification and then have them send or fax you information on what they said so you will have a record just in case.

I would check their website and see if it's covered that way before sitting on the phone forever waiting for an answer. Or possibly call the hospital you will deliver at and talk to their account rep. More then likely they will no off the top of their head with the numbers or babies born each week. I would say more then likely it will be covered but you never know until you ask. Also consider the fact that alot of places will cover it if "medically neccessary" Alot of doctors consider it medically neccessary when you have a mother who is in enough pain that they are hyperventilating or worse unable to listen or cooperate with the doctor due to pain.

Call your insurance they will let you know about all this information, also i think that they would refund you your money if they could not do the procedure but hope you can get the epidural it helps so much

Call the member service number on the back of your card. A member service will be more than willing and capable of quickly answering you questions and going over your coverage with you if necessary. Good Luck.

if you have not paid your obgyn yet........ wait until the new year if they will allow you that way it will cut down on paying twice when most of the pregnancy was this year............ the other thing i did was go to the chiropractor for massage and stuff which feels good in pregnancy and you'll meet the deductible
