when do SS medical benefits kick in ?

You must be 65 years old before you can sign up for

Medicare. this is NOT a free

drug plan tho. You will have

to pay a monthly premium plus they only pay 80% of all services, so you must pay the other 20%. No medications

are covered. You must get

an addition called Part D,

which you also must pay premiums, and pay various

costs for your prescriptions.

Most physical therapy is

no longer covered (unless it

is part of surgery.) It gets very complicated and many

I'm assuming you were turned down for SS Disability over & over again, right? I retired early because of a badly botched foot surgery, & I sought the help of a lawyer who dealt only with SS Disability cases, & after being denied twice, third time was charm for me. Call your local SS office, but I do believe you will receive SS benefits at age 65 yrs.

Oh Stormy, that is sad you can't get disability, if you are too sick to work you should be able to have it and then you have to wait two years for Medicare...then when you are retirement age it will change to Medicaid....email me I may be able to give you some information to help with that. The new retirement age is 67 as I understand it.

Mine will begin in 2010 a month after I turn 65 and I was born in '44. Hope that helps some, depends on your birth year.

I thought it was age 65. You have to pay the Medicare premium. Hope you can afford it. My mom pays a over $200.00 for her premium every 3 months. I won't qualify until 2015.

wading through that web page i think you need to contact your social security office three months before you turn 65 and apply and you will be enrolled once you turn 65!!! it is not clear if the folks you have to wait until they are 67 to get full retirement when it kicks in!!!

If you are in prison, yes, I believe you foreit your rights to public and social security benefits. This would be a Medicaid or Medicare question. Social Security is earned by the number of quarters in the work force.

Everyone at age 65 is automatically enrolled in Medicare Part A. You must contact Medicare (www. medicare.gove) if you wish to enroll with Part B and D.

At age sixty five you qualify for Medicare. The cost will be deducted from your SS benefits.
