Although it helps to learn it in person, as they say, that same thing can be said about any language. However, you're in luck, I happen to know a wonderful website that teaches you ASL.
I use this website for vocabulary, learning, and as a useful resource about Deaf culture, etc.

You can't really learn it off the Internet, you would need to learn it in person.

you dont have to. dont you have deaf friends or people in your area?
talking to deaf person is alot faster and will speed up your skill.
