Fetal Heart Monitor (How far along until I can hear anything?)?

I am 10 weeks pregnant with our first child, and tonight I bought a "Summer" Fetal Heart Monitoring Device (to hear the baby's heartbeat). It says it probably won't pick up any sound until midway through the second trimester, but I'm just curious... has anyone tried this particular product or one like it? How early were you able to hear anything? My hubby is going to pick up batteries on his way home in a few hours because I forgot them (of course!), but I am just dying to try this thing even though it's still kinda early.

I shelled out $100 for a doppler and didn't have much luck until my 16th week, and even then I didn't know I was hearing the heartbeat because it was a whooshing noise rather than the "galloping horses" people say it sounds like. Overall it made me stress more than it comforted me (mainly because I had a lot of complications early on and i bought it for peace for mind, which it did the opposite). I am not familiar with the brand you mentioned, but I know most store bought monitors don't work until the 3rd trimester if at all. Hopefully you got a good one though!

I have one and I love it. The brand is Hi-Bebe and I got it off Amazon. I think it plus shipping was only about $65 bucks. Do not get the kind they sell at Babies R Us or Wal-Mart, they will not work, they're cheap. Amazon has some really good ones, just look up Fetal Heart Monitors and it will pop up with a ton of them. I was able to use mine from 11 weeks on. You'll love yours too. Good luck! Edit: The earlier on you are in your pregnancy you do have to put it right above your pubic bone and aim down to hear the heartbeat. You may also hear your uterine arteries which mimics your own heartbeat, your babies will be much faster....I got confused at first lol.

The only ones that can pick up the heartbeat that early are the ones you rent like the doc's office uses the other stuff is junk and you wont hear anything till the thrid trimester, so dont stress just save it till later. Or you can rent a good one from babybeats.com it's like $22 a month

Those things work for some people and some they do not work for. I am 27 weeks; will be 28 tomorrow and still can't hear a thing on mine. I bought it when I was like 17 or 18 weeks or something like that and I basically wasted my money. I am going to take it back to Walmart and exchange it for some baby stuff.
