Yup. I used to fly a lot on U.S. Air, and eventually I racked up enough frequent flyer miles to qualify for either a free coach ticket or a bump up to First Class. So, my last trip to England [about ten years ago], I paid the coach fare and got the upgrade to First Class.
Lovely experience. The food was great, the booze was free, the seat was wide, and the leg room was amazing. Oh, and the seat next to me was empty, so I had use of it as well. Terrific flight crew as well -- very conversational and friendly. It was odd to have them address me by name upon sitting down in my seat.

I've flown alot, but I don't really see all the hype in first class. I could do it, but I would rather spend my money on something more fun.

No i've actually never been on an airliner. i've only flown in little single engine airplanes. I'd prefer not to go in the airliners because when i went in the small planes, i knew the pilot (my dad works at an airport) so i felt safe with them.

When I was in the military I was allowed a seat in first class because I was flying home from service. I drank one glass of champagne and passed out. I didn't really notice any difference except for the better leg room.

Yes, by default.
My first flight ever, left O'Hare, connection in Atlanta was delayed and I had to stay overnight.
The airport personnel was so nice, they gave me first class seat to my destination.
The seats were comfy and much roomier.
