Cuba _ what will happen if castro goes in 2008 ?

Fidel Castro is the father of the nation and he has outlasted many assasination attempts, but do you think he will hand over power to his brother or that there is a risk of an American backed invasion if he dies?

If he dies, it will not change over night. It might take a couple of years.

It's hard to say, but here's my educated guess. Raul would take over, as Fidel would wants, and life in Cuba would go on as it has ever since the revolution. After Raul? Will another family member step in? Will Cuba finally change to a democracy? I don't know. But these are both possible paths. I find it very realistic that the U.S. invades, annexes, or sets up democracy there. Although I really don't know if it'll ever happen like that.

Raul Castro, Fidel's brother becomes the leader. When Raul dies they have already selected and trained the next in line. I think we should stay out of it. Mind our own business for once. If the people of Cuba have a problem with their leaders let the people of Cuba take them down.

The minute Fidel dies Raul steps in and nothing changes.

No we wont as Americans but I know a bunch of Cubans that might try.

I don't think he'll hand over anything. He'll die in power, officially. While he probably won't control the country towards the end, he'll still be the official leader. Raul will take over, and from what I understand, he's more eager to reestablish the relationship with the U.S. I think it will actually be to the benefit of the Cuban people and the U.S. when he takes over.

The US will step in but in a back door kinda way and use the Gibson Brothers as their front men.
