Help me with new vegetarian baby foods?

I have learned that preparing ahead of time is the best! Our daughter is almost 3 months old, so of course she will not be eating solids yet. However, when she does start, I want to be prepared. We have chosen to go vegetarian again and she will be as well. Does anyone know of any good recipes sites for homemade vegetarian baby food? We will never buy store bought and it must be 100% Organic. Any ideas or tips or sites? Thanks

Update:

Oh and, FYI: I am not looking for others to force meat upon our family. My entire family has been raised Vegetarian and our Pediatrician has said this was fine, there are alternatives. Thank you for your input, but it will not be necessary. If my daughter gets sick...we will know, and she surely will never be removed from our home. We are a wonderful Christian family who can provide more for our children than most people can. We also help other families and do missionary work. The Lord is with us as He is with you. God bless.

Update 2:

Thank you for those with kind answers. I feel the individuals who say that we must eat meat to live are usually (not always) the unhealthy and misinformed people whom we read their obituaries in the mornings. It is a lifestyle choice and one we feel comfortable with. Thank you again.

Here is a search engine filled with sites for you.

I have to say though that if you want to go 100% organic you have to farm your own veggies. What is truly organic and what the FDA considers organic are two very different things.

Good luck with your cooking!! And your baby.

I am not vegetarian, but I don't understand why people think you have to have meat. I've known many veggies and vegans who raised their kids with no meat ever and they were very healthy.

LoL, I forget to add the link:

Sorry, but aren't we forcing our children to eat meat if that's what we feed them? Logic.

I don't know what other people do, but when I make veggies for my daughter, I just basically steam them and then cut into bit size chunks for finger food (I did puree at first, but that didn't last too long). As you go along she'll get to the point of eating family meals so she'll eat what you eat. Just make sure it's not highly seasoned and can be easily gummed.

What Shera O said. If you eat well yourself, don't bother with "baby food" per se; just offer what's on your plate (within reason).

    Some good reading:

"Experts seek to debunk baby food myths

Little evidence supports ‘any particular way of doing things’"

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9646449

"What are some good iron sources?"

    http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/vitamins/iron.ht...

    "Baby-led weaning"

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby-led_weaning

"It is prudent to avoid highly spiced or highly allergenic foods at first (e.g. egg white, strawberries), but if the baby reaches for the potato on your plate, make sure it is not too hot, and let him have the potato. There is no need to go in any specific order, and there is no need for the baby to eat only one food for a certain period of time. Some exclusively breastfed babies dislike infant cereal when it is introduced at about six months of age. There is no need for concern and no need to persist if the baby doesn’t want the cereal. There is nothing magic or necessary about infant cereal. Offer your baby the foods that he is interested in. Allow the baby to enjoy food and do not worry exactly how much he actually takes at first. Much of it may end up in his hair and on the floor anyhow. There is no need either that foods be pureed if the baby is six months of age or older..."

I'm a Lacto-Veggie born & raised.. my mom was a veggie when she was pregnant with me & I've stuck with it with absolutely no health complications from it. My mom used a food processor and juicer to make homemade baby food for me and my brother. You can also buy these little mesh pouches made for holding berries and fruits for your daughter. She can gum and gnaw on them until the berries are pureed and smush out the mesh... also works well with frozen and cold fruits for when she's teething! ;) The mesh is very very fine and will keep any pieces from going thru. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId...

You can also buy these little frozen containers from babies r us for storing your own baby food: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId...

Good luck & congrats on your healthy decision!! :)

oh geez ignore that you are abusing your child.....whatever

okay we are veggies too.....and there is no need to get all prepared for veggie baby foods if you simply practice baby led weaning

breastmilk will be her number one food for her first year....and at about 6 months just simply offer her bits of YOUR food

mine is 6 and half months and she is sucking and knawing on carrot sticks, broccoli florets, pieces of bread, cheerios....so on

while yes the heme from meats is better absorbed by babies, veggies and beans are also sources of iron and protein

and your breastmilk will protect her from any shortcomings from food

You need to make sure she gets meat, shes very young and that young of babies need the powerful protein. You may not know this but a baby can become very sick, and you may not even notice. There has been many court cases in which the child was taken away for abuse. Talk to a doctor/pediatrition before doing this.

It is crucial she gets complete proteins which only come from meats or by certain combinations of foods.
