scrap metal?
We just replaced our air conditioning unit, I asked to keep the old unit because I know that there is copper inside of it. Besides the copper is there anything else of value that I can recycle for $$$ off our old system?

there is probably copper, brass, and aluminum inside. not to mention the tin if it is an older unit....but the Freon must be removed first. to be don't properly it is supposed to be collected in a tank. this is expensive to have done. most junk yards charge a fee to take a freon bearing appliance like refrigerators , freezers and air conditioners

Not only will recycling centers charge a substantial fee, some of them won't take any type of refrigeration unit without a stamp or seal or some sort of proof that the freon has been removed by a certified HVAC tech. Also, the copper and any aluminum, tin, etc, will only be purchased separately if you take the unit apart and separate the metals into their own box or pile. They won't pay you for everything that's in the AC, they'll pay the least price for the most metal. If they figure it's mostly steel, or iron, that's what they'll pay you for.

There is very little copper piping inside, you're looking at a few bucks if anything. There is aluminum, but again, a few bucks if anything. Plus, you'll need to separate these, since the scrapyard wants these separated before hand. It wasn't worth the effort.
