Should the word "crotch" be used when describing an impending love scene?

This book is not a comedy nor a per se romance and would probably fit the genre "chick lit".

The protagonist is a pretty female who recurrently meets up with the male protagonist. In one scene, they are about to get hot and heavy and the heroine, in the first person narrative, refers to her nether region as "crotch".

The author seems to think that the word "crotch" is perfectly fine in this context. However, I think that the word has a sort of derogatory or vulgar connotation better suited for raunchy humor or a fight scene. I wouldn't think that the main character, who happens to write for a living, would refer to her own anatomy as "crotch" during a non-humorous sex scene.

What do you think?

i get a bad, weird feeling when i hear that word,

    maybe it's just me.

Um, well, not being able to read the book, I would say that the choice of words is fine. Maybe she is nervous and the word crotch just comes out of her mouth. Who knows?

I don't think that crotch is raunchy. I mean, what word-really- sounds ok? Should she have said va-gina?

Is this a book that can be purchased or checked out from the library?
