Ideas about Portland, Oregon MLB team????
It seems Portland should be a shoe in for the next city to get a Major League Baseball team. If this does, whenever, happen what do you think the teams name will be? People from the area I'd love to hear what you have to say and why, because you can relate it to the city or the state.

Personally, I think expansion has really hurt baseball and lowered the level of play. Get rid of the Devil Rays and Marlins. No one goes to their games even though the Marlins have won two World Series because South Florida just isn't a good sports market. Move the Brewers back to the AL, and there you go. 14 teams in each league (like from 1993 to 1997). Then you don't have players like Dioner Navarro and Mark Grudzielanek finding a starting job every year.

Portland would be a logical choice. Seattle has been the only MLB team in the Northwest now for 30 years and California already has 5 teams. Portland vs. Seattle would be a fun rivalry to watch. However Portland would most likely land an NL team, like if say the Marlins relocate. As for a name... How about the Portland Stoners j/k that's too obvious. You could go with the Portland Strip Clubbers, it's what the city is currently famous for. This one is my favorite: the Portland Microbrewers.

I do believe Portland and/or the Oregon state will be the next option for a MLB team. They have contacted the Florida Marlins to see if they'll relocate... considering there's almost no fans at their games.
If the Milwaukee Brewers were to move to Portland, you guys could just keep the name. I heard Portland has quite a few breweries as well. Portland Roses? Probably too feminine. Portland Oreganos? Nah, too lame.

Portland is definitely the next best market for a MLB team. Their minor league organization gets a ton of support and they are definitely long overdue for a team. It has already proven that it can support an NBA franchise, so MLB should take advantage of the market.
As for names, here are some ideas:
-Pioneers (for the migrants on the Oregon Trail
-Beavers (take the name of minor league team)
-Rosebuds (referring to "Rose City")
-Cascades (named for the Cascade Mountains)
The only challenge would be whether MLB would have to create an expansion team or move a team. I think that the best idea would be moving the Marlins to Portland, since the people of Miami obviously don't care about the team.

My only concern with Portland getting a team is: would they be able to economically compete? Without a salary cap, cities like Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Tampa, etc. have a hard time competing with the Yankees, Red Sox, etc. If the Marlins moved to Portland, would Portland be able to financially keep guys like Hanley Ramirez?

I'd love to see a MLB team in Portland. I've lived in Seattle all my life and up here you don't get to see many NL teams on TV (save for the Braves...silly TBS...). It would be a welcome addition to the "area" and I would drive down just to catch a few NL games.

Sacramento is a better place for the next MLB team. They proved that they are the best AAA fans in the US.
