mouldy grout in bathroom tiles?

i have mould or some kind of gross stuff in my grout in my bathroom tiles. we had a problem with the bathroom and the landlord had to re paint it and put a new extracter fan in. it was ok for about a week, now its back and nothing i do makes it go. i cleaned the grout, used sugarsoap stuff and even used grout reviver. It is black and on the actual tiles is orangey stains and i can't work out where its coming from. we are moving out in 2 weeks, will the landlord expect me to clean it before i leave?

Get some neat bleach and pour it into a container, make sure you're wearing rubber gloves to protect your skin.

Using an old toothbrush rub the bleach into the grout and leave to soak for approx 5 to10 minutes and then rinse off and wipe down.

You won't see a dramatic change immediately but within 24 hrs you grout should be perfectly white.

Don't tell your landlord this little secret, this problem was a recurring one at a Friends house for at least 11 years. It was common to all the houses in the street. The landlords had spent a small fortune trying unsuccessfully to rectify the problem. The mould is actually a secondary problem. The initial problem is the "steam" as the steam comes off the boiling water it has to either vent out of the room or condense on a cooler surface ie your tiles.....TURN DOWN your boiler temperature so it doesn't produce as much steam when filling the bath. The small amount of steam that is produced can easily be vented away with a small fan or an open window. Your tiles/grout will still have to be cleaned for a final time with a product that removes the mould and a bleaching agent that whitens your grout....

The orangey stuff is sandy grains and lime scale from the water and the black stuff in the grout is mould. What you should do after a shower or bath is wipe down the tiles with a sponge or cloth. You can also buy mould killer from most DIY stores. Apply this a few times to the grout. When you have it all clean buy and use as directed Mr Muscle Shower Spray. It will not come back again.

Emily to keep grouting looking nice and clean in a bathroom Fill a spray bottle with water and a good squirt of bleach I use domestos in mine , open a window and spray all grouting Do this once a week preferably after a shower or bath And the bleach and water mix will do the work for you Once a month I polish my tiles Its a good work out for me And it prevents water sticking to the tiles it runs off and they dry quicker All ways open a window after every shower or bath and spray

If he does then he's just being a pain. It's not your resonsibility, but if you would feel better by getting rid of it then do.Fungus or mould is probly caused in the bathroom by a lack of air flow as the moist creates the mould.Try keeping your windows open or putt a fan in the bathroom to dry the air out.Every time you have a hot shower you feed the mould and make it 'grow'.Remove the mould with chemicals like mr shower and maintain it with a good air flow.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com/

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

As mentioned in some of the sensible answers but with additional ventilation, if possible. Steam has a habit of forming on any cold surface, including paintwork and wallpaper in the form of black spots.

If you manage to clean it once, then use grout protector. Find local Topps Tiles shop, they should have it. Or online:

black mould is caused by damp, not your problem to solve, but if you want, use orange peel on grout, acid will burn it off , but every time you use shower, it will return,

    Source(s): ive had it myself
