XP is faster, cheaper, has less neat interface, supports a lot of older software Vista doesn't.

Vista is slower, more expensive, has neater interface, supports some new hardware XP doesn't. Also spends some more of your PCs power on controlling that you don't copy protected media contents. Is more resource-hungry

Windows XP is a Microsoft Office program that has all the bugs worked out and is not that hard (relatively) to learn. Vista is the new program by Microsoft that does not have all the bugs worked out. It also is incompatible with other older Microsoft applications. What this means is if you have some documents say in Microsoft Word 95 you may not be able to bring it up with Vista. You also will have to download updates and patches etc. You periodically have to download updates (usually security) to all programs but your ability to use the computer is not necessarily dependent on those downloads. You can go to the Microsoft website and ask more questions but keep in mind they are out to sell their products. If you are not that computer savvy I would recommend Windows XP. I think it will be a while before Vista gets fully integrated and compatible to other programs like XP is. Happy purchasing!

I think that vista is better...its newer and i think its a lot easier to use. Before you buy the laptop go to a big electronics store: Bestbuy, Circuit City, or anywhere that sells laptops and things like that. Ask them the difference between xp and vista. An especially good place to go ask would be at Geeksquad in your local bestbuy, or firedog in your local Circuit City
