    C4 plants in the tropics have a mechanism to prevent photorespiration. C3 plants in the temperate zones do not need this adaptation.

    There are two seperate cycles or systems of photosynthesis.

    Light independent (doesn't need sun light) Light Dependent (needs sun light). During the day (when the sun is out) the plant going through it's light dependent cycle resulting in products that will be used (at night) or as it is being shipped out at the end of LD cycle. This is good for plants that reside in places where the days are short because they can continue photosynthesis even at night/when the sun isn't out.
