They didn't give me my receipt at Wendy's drive thru( Debit card purchase) , What should I do ?

I hate these fast food chains and their multi billion corporation asses . trying to get the money from the public.

anyway I paid for my combo at this near by wendy's using my debit card and it seems they dn't have a receipt because the printer is broken.

Now i am furious and i am telling the guy , I need my receipt

because I think it was the fair thing to do . I need a proof that I bought somethingn using my debit card. I dn't want my bank balance to be wiped out next sunday when i check how much I have in my account.

So the guy is telling , sir the printer is broken , we will give you a regular receipt . with no debit card info on it ( u know the last 4 digits ) ..

i realzed there was no point in reasoning with this guy

So finally I told the old guy , alrite , "Sir, i am gona leave now , but i am gona come back with my cousin , who's a lawyer, will u have 5 minutes to talk to him "

well i wasn't really gona do that ,

BUT IS THIS LEGAL?i dn't understand , NO RECEIPT OF PURCHASE?

I've never heard of anyone so infuriated at not receiving a receipt at people who work in the fast food chain.. If the machine is broken, it's a problem for the company not having a back up machine to install. I would write a letter to the company about the situation. For my own record, I would keep what the manager gave me and make sure his initials are on there next to the purchase price. Then check my bank statement online the next day to compare the purchase. I would be more concerned at a Restaurant waiter where tips are written in the blank line of the receipt. Once I went to Applebees with 5 friends. We had only deserts that were $2.50 each. It was a debit purchase. I should have asked for the receipt because on the bank statement the next day showed $64.64. That did not seem right to me, and I had no proof to show there was an error. From now on, I have made it a habit to only use cash and no more debit for restaurants.

As of July 2007, US vendors are not required to provide receipts for electronic terminal payments for values under $15. So, unless you bought a fairly expensive lunch (or you purchased it before July 2007), legally, they are in the clear.

Yes, receipts on electronic transactions exist to protect consumers from mistaken or over-payments. Not producing a receipt (over $15 or before July 2007) is illegal and pretty serious. If you complain they could loose their terminal services and bad press could cost them big time.

However, legal issues aside, both sides need to use some common sense and civility in handling the situation.

Printers do break down and it's not some great conspiracy by the "corporate asses". The solution is pretty simple -- take out a piece of paper and a pen, and writing down the amount, your bank card information, the date and time, sign the bottom, and hand it to the customer. Receipts do not have to come from computers -- hand writen ones (along with your bank statement) are certainly enough proof to correct the mistake.

On your side, threatening to call lawyers or demanding something from an employee not trained to handle the situation is unnecessary. If you walk into a Wendy's with a highlighted bank statement and say "You charged me $7 instead of $4.50 and you won't give me a receipt." you know Wendy's is going to correct the issue -- even if to avoid having their accountants track down transactions or to avoid bad press and your ill-will. They know customers do not spend hours trying to collect small amounts unless they are likely right about a problem.

There is little chance that anyone is going to rip you off big time. Since the workers don't see any of the money, the machine needs to be rigged, and they can only rip you off small amounts, risking jail so your company can make $5 or so per transaction is pretty silly. If they try any large rip-offs, they will have a hard time explaining to your bank, their bank, the feds, or the police how you ordered $300 worth of hamburgers and there is no receipt.

It is understood that most people use a debit or credit card everyday and toss the reciept. Then they get upset when overcharged, double charged, a big tip is added, etc. etc.

It is legal for them to not provide your w. a reciept. But many would get upset w. this...... and a smart person in this day and age does. What they only have one printer? They can switch out the printer in 2 minutes. My bet is they were out of paper for the printer and felt that they didn't need to change it. Or the system was down... but that is not your problem.

But all in all they have to run the card so there is a record and things can be dealt w. later if needed. A lawyer is useless. They offered you a reciept right? They would smack you down in court.

Call corporate and evenly express your concerns. They will give you something. If something goes wrong debit wise you will have have that record.

But all in all it is best to actually have some cash on you so you don't have to worry about it for minor purchases.

Why couldn't you just write down the purchase, how you purchased it, and taken the regular receipt. I have never known a debit purchase to have the balance of my bank account on it when purchasing anything, and surely would not be too happy if that info was on it for anyone to see. You need on line banking and fast, so can immediately access your account and the say 6.00 deduction showing. This could help solve your dilemma and lower your blood pressure.

I suggest you wait until and IF your card is charged wrongly. Until then, there's really no reason to chew out some poor kid making minimum wage about the printer being out of paper.

Is there something more serious bothering you?? I certainly hope so ... or maybe not. If this is how you react to no receipt, I can't imagine what would happen if you had a REAL problem.

Your lawyer acquaintance would probably tell you: You should have accepted their offer to give you a regular receipt, but, with written explanation that it was provided due to a defective printer: it would have accomplished the same results as the regular receipt had an issue resulted regarding the transaction.

There is no laws in accordance with this. It is wrong, but the most you can do is insist on seeing a statement of all credit card point of sale transactions for that day on the next business day, as ALL business usually run a summary of all sales (and most pos systems print out each individual sale) for you to see, to have proof that you did, in fact, spend what the price was for the value meal. That is the only reasonable way to resolve this issue. (By the way, the odds of a pe-on fast food employee to run your card for a large amount is bleak, unless he ran it, and took cash out of the drawer to compensate the large debit card charge, which is also possible, but not likely!) Good luck, and please let me know how this answer worked for you! (Most restaurants keep the pos reciept printed out and stapled to the report for their records for atleast a week circulation, and then mail them off to the owner of the property or the corporation, so act quick!) GOOD LUCK, AND KUDOS FOR A CREDIBLE QUESTION!

If you hate these chains and corporations so much why eat there? Exactly what do you need a receipt for? Is the $5.95 really going to wipe out your bank account or your afraid of the drive thru guy stealing after you threatened him with a lawyer? You seriously need to concern yourself with more important things.
