Hi Lisa!
I've moved across the country a couple of times, initially from the home my family had lived in for over a hundred years. For me, the best reason to leave was educational opportunity: I first moved north to attend a rather exclusive university for my master's degree, then westward for my phd. Now I'm facing the possibility of another move for my career. Heading away from a long-known home for parts unknown is bearable if one believes there are better opportunities in store.

It's a lot easier when you don't have any ties. When you have responsibilities or others counting on you, it's pretty hard to just "pick up and move".
I've travelled, and used to go away once a year. That was adventure enough for me. Always felt good to come home, but sometimes I wish I could have just lived in fantasy land a lot longer.
Don't forget, it's work wherever you go to survive, but there are places if you don't mind a major change of lifestyle you could get by on dirt cheap.
I've heard many adventure tales from travellers. Exciting as it all sounds I don't think I could pull up stakes for good. I've pretty well grown roots so in as much as I like a change now and again, I don't think I would move very far, just find a place with a nice lake, and good people, and that is good enough for me now.
When I was young, had I had some motivation or goal in site, I might have pursued it, but it wasn't in the cards.

The motivation for me to move across country would be to be with someone I loved...and it would be a mixture of scary & adventure! But I think worth it!

I moved with my hubby from MA to NC because of a job promotion. At first I considered it the big adventure, then when reality hit it was kind of scary. But it's all good, and still everyday is an adventure.

Scary. Change is hard for me. Everything will be different. But you can also get tired of the same routine you have now. Imagine all the new things you will experience. You would get excited about what new challenge you would have that day. Also you would learn just how strong you really are. Accept the challenge and move and prove to everyone what kind of person you really are.

Both Lisa!!! My husband and I are planning to move from Essex, where I have been born and bred, lived all my life here, to Somerset. I am both excited about it as it is a big adventure and a new life for both of us but so scared in case I feel isolated from the rest of my family or I don't like the new place. There is an old saying though - 'nothing ventured nothing gained'!!

Well, as you know, I have just done exactly that.
What motivated me was where I was at the time had nothing but many years of bad memories, shattered dreams and no prospect for anything good. So, I decided it was time to leave it all behind and start over.
The best motivation for such a journey is the same motivation those who came here in the beginning had. A new and better life.
Good luck my friend.

I am doing that in about two months and I am scared, but I am ready for a new start. I think a new adventure is the motivation.

That would be a most definite adventure my friend.
I have always dreamed of "Thelma and Louise'n" it across the country. Now wouldn't THAT be some adventure.
(Of course I'd much rather pick up on hot men along the way rather than kill 'em ... but then again if they were to pi*ss me off!) lol!
To actually do it to move my life there ... well that would take either the job .. or the man ... of my dreams! =)
Peace and grand adventures to you!!

I can only tell you about my move. We both got damaged at the same time, and couldn`t keep up the big house on Long Island. We sold out and moved to Houston, where one of my daughters live. A good move as it turned out.
