WEP Key: Open, Shared, Both?
I have a Prolink H9300G Wireless Router and I need to put a WEP key for security.
Now at the configuration page for the WEP keys, it's asking for the WEP authentication type: Shared, Open, or Both.
I want my network to be secure as in, before people could connect to it, the need to put in the WEP key.
Which of those 3 will ask them to do that?
Here's a screenshot of the router configuration page: http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/1146/prolinkscr...

WEP is the weakest possible router security you can set up. What you need, if you don't want your signal hijacked, is WPA-Personal or WPA-2, and you want your router to stop broadcasting a signal. Call your router manufacturer (they should have given you an 800 number with the paperwork) and have them help you set this up. If you want people to be able to use your signal, then go ahead and use WEP. It won't matter whether you have open, shared, or both. Everyone that has a wireless router knows the login and password for WEP.

do not use wep for protection , wep can be cracked in a matter
of 5 minutes and your network will not be secure. To really secure your network use open and select wpa psk
the psk is pre shared key , and then select TKIP or AES
your choice and make a really strong password or passphrase
and you are done , wep is dead and is useless. always use wpa

open connection means no security any body can connect to your router without entering the keys no authentication no passphrase . shared key authentication is when user provides correct key phrase and and other user can access the wirless router with same authentications so more then one user with one Passphrase ..
