Could the Fair Tax help stop illegal immigration?
A large insult to the Fair Tax plan is that it promotes saving, and discourages spending. Critics argue that spending is the basis of the American economy, and therefore the Fair Tax would not be suitable for the United States. Could this discouragement of spending help to discourage illegal immigration though? My theory is as follows: a lack of spending would result in job cuts on the lowest economic level. This would be where most of the illegal workers reside. The illegals would lose their jobs. This would overall make America less appealing for any hopeful workers who have not yet immigrated. What do you all think?

Yes, the illegal aliens would NOT be eligible for the "PRE-BATE." If they aren't getting the pre-bate then they'll be clobbered by the tax.
You are wrong about the effect of the Fair Tax. It will cause an explosion of economic growth.

One question. How does America get their fair share of the fair tax from illegals who send most of their money back home?
Mother of J and J - 1. I'm not so ignorant to have claimed that all illegals don't pay taxes.
2. My answer is getting the fair tax from illegals who send most of their money back home. Don't recall including ALL who are illegally here don't pay taxes. Don't even recall singling out Mexicans as you have. Therefore you read too much into my answer. Putting words where they clearly are not.
3. It's not Mexico's money. It's USA money. So how does Mexico justify STEALING taxes from that money sent back to Mexico, which clearly is owed to the IRS in America?
4. I saw a resolved question where Dirty Martini commended you for not being discriminatory against other races, then rightly shamed the poster who "said" that to you. and you thanked her for that comment. Guess you just blew that image. a. By saying that only Mexicans send money back home. b. Taking your frustrations out on certain antis' such as myself. I wonder what credibility you'd have with her now.
5. I see you're going to resort to childish name-calling like SOME of the other Pro illegals do. That's ashame. Cause I thought better of you until you started that.
6. No need for apologies. Because I've found throughout my time on here that SOME Pros can't seem to manage to utter the words "I'm sorry for ___". Especially when they are in the wrong.

The FairTax would do nothing to decrease illegal immigration. Some may claim it would, but the federal government's strong desire for illegal immigration (lack of enforcement, periodic amnesty programs, "catch and release" BS, etc.) indicate they want it. Therefore, as many states as well (think California for one) give benefits to illegals, they'd end up with the "prebates."
FairTax is wrong for other reasons. First, they start off with lies. They say 23% tax, but that is false, if something that is a dollar now is $1.30 then, that is 30% tax (http://www.jewishworldreview.com/1207/page.php3).
Second, they claim the IRS will be abolished. Also false. There has to be SOME group in the fed government to collect all these taxes and waste our money cutting MONTHLY checks. Who is going to do that? The FairTax Fairy? It's going to cost a BUNDLE.
Third, they claim the exempt necessities by giving the pre-bate. That is another lie. In fact,
"Why not just exempt necessities from the FairTax instead of providing for a prebate?
The prebate is the most equitable and most efficient way to make the FairTax progressive. If the FairTax were to exempt necessities, the tax rate would have to be 20 percent higher then the FairTax rate with a prebate."
http://www.fairtax.org/site/PageServer?pagename=ab...
Please note that, they bury it, of course, but NECESSITIES would cause it to be 20% higher--of course one wonders, is that a mathematical 20% (36% reality) or one of their BS% figures (how 30 cents in tax on a dollar is 23%?).
FairTax does NOT eliminate the fed taxes on gas.
It does NOTHING to control spending or prevent another tax hike.
It does NOTHING to prevent the feds from pushing off MORE of the costs of ill-conceived programs like Medicaid, SCHIP, etc. on to the STATES to pay for.
Contrary to what they claim at FairTax, the tax falls hardest on the poor: everyone has to eat and the poor tend to have worse health, so they will find that their cost of living rises dramatically. If you are unfortunate enough to have diabetes, for example, a common medical problem:
your testing strips
the lancets, alcohol, etc.
your medication
your doctor visits
will all rise a minimum of 30%.
You will NOT have that all "prebated" to you because you are spending more than you "should" on your medical condition.
Welcome to FAIR tax--right there an oxymoron as though tax is fair.
There are NUMEROUS ways the actual RICH will be able to prevent paying this tax--it absolutely CAN be circumvented and it WOULD be circumvented.
Remember the last 2 times Congress tried to play class warfare with us that we got these two Satanic gems:
the AMT--THAT was originally targeting about 150 people. Bet you know someone it hits today and are they RICH? Bet you they're not even close. Congress refuses to repeal that piece of trash and pretends they "help" us with their stupid patches--note how this year the Dems held that up so refunds will be LATE for people--that's Uncle Sam getting the use of YOUR money for FREE.
The "luxury tax" from 1990. See economist Walter Williams:
"In 1990, when Congress imposed a luxury tax on yachts, private airplanes and expensive automobiles, Sen. Ted Kennedy and then-Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell crowed publicly about how the rich would finally be paying their fair share of taxes. But yacht retailers reported a 77 percent drop in sales, and boat builders laid off an estimated 25,000 workers. What happened? Kennedy and Mitchell simply assumed that the rich would behave the same way after the imposition of the luxury tax as they did before and the only difference would be more money in the government's coffers. They had a zero-elasticity vision of the world, namely that people do not respond to price changes. People always respond, and the only debatable issue is how much and over what period."
http://www.jewishworldreview.com/0205/williams_eco...
What Williams didn't point out and I will because the media refuses to do its job and show consequences, is that means we LOST revenue, people WENT ON UNEMPLOYMENT (tax cost), and probably some WELFARE was involved for at least some of the FORMERLY employed. All of that came out of the taxpayers' pockets. PLUS some rich folks simply bought their expensive toys in ANOTHER COUNTRY sending US dollars abroad for no good reason.
THAT is how taxation ACTUALLY works.

except the President used the money for greater beef barrel projects and corruption it could be of project to have social courses that are no longer tied to the backs of working people. We spent $20 billion on Pakistan which became a comprehensive waste of money. that style of money buys an undesirable lot of training and wellbeing care. We lack management and we lack the braveness as electorate to end dancing for political events and end electing politicians to public workplace. each time tells me, with satisfaction, that they seem to be a Repub or a Dem or maybe worse a liberal or conservative, i can in easy terms shake my head...they are the undertaking in the rustic and are so dense they can't see it. The off 3 hundred and sixty 5 days congressional election confirmed that individuals will vote throughout the time of social gathering lines for substitute, we could desire to reject the belief of vote casting for events. in case you have ever voted a at present fee ticket, please under no circumstances talk to me as you're stupid.

The mother of j and j, who cares if messyco is getting tax money from the illegal aliens? How does that help America. Oh yeah, that's right you don't give a s h i t about America or Americans. Just as long as the scummy slimmy messycons can profit you're good.

the people in lowest economic level cannot afford to save even if they wanted. the live pay check to pay check. most Americans, legal and otherwise, are in debt due to the high cost of living.
your theory is without merit
the people who will benefit from this would be those who earning $50K+... this group actually has money after paying for essentials

Don't think it would stop it, but it would definitely make the illegals who are here pay their fair share.
- AlwaysrightLv 51 decade ago
you assume that they don't pay taxes.also COLDSTONE not all send it home.and Mexico is now taxing all money sent home.so at least someone is getting the taxes from it.
no they will still come no matter.money isn't the only thing that has them on the run from their countries.

Your theory is oversimplified I'm afraid. Why not just put up the frickin fence and create a mine field 300yards deep on our side of the fence. (With proper posted warnings of course).
