  • Toshiba Satellite C55 shows BSOD.?

Purchased 9/2014. Was updated, etc. then stored for months after purchase. Was updated and TurboTax installed about 2 weeks ago. Then waiting for the necessary tax documents, so sitting, off, stored. Turned on today and got nothing. No recovery disk. Read about "restoring to factory settings" by turning on while plugged into AC and some said hit 0 not on num pad and hold; others said tap F8. Neither produced anything. Toshiba doesn't offer support past 90 days, so hoping someone who knows what's up would share that info. Thanks.

  • What one weird spice cures diabetes?

I keep seeing this. I've not heard of ANY cure for diabetes. I don't consider cinnamon to be a "weird" spice, so I'm thinking it should be something OTHER than cinnamon.

I do NOT want to hear that there is NO cure for diabetes--I already said I've not heard of one but that does NOT mean there are not things that can HELP it and if someone wants to overstate the advantage, if it's really just a spice, probably wouldn't harm a person to see what it does.

Please don't answer cinnamon. We've all heard and it's NOT weird.

I figure someone out there must have seen the spice that IS being touted.

(I don't think of berberine as a spice either.)

So many things ARE touted for diabetes it's impossible to stay on top of it all and something useful could be overlooked in the mountain of stuff out there. Don't agree? Don't answer. Thanks.

  • Electronic dog doors for a large dog. What's best?

I've got a lab who could use an electronic dog door as the winds out here make the regular dog door not very comfortable for us. It's really hard to find good info on these doors and I was hoping a satisfied customer could tell me what's good.

Not spending over $1K per Plexidoor. I saw PetSafe and High Tech but that's only three brands and I've heard some are electronic, some RFID, and might even be another way to get the "auto" ones to open.

This will go in a "people" door--cannot go in a wall or non-existent sliding glass door. Does need to be large (for a long-legged 55 pound dog).

    Links appreciated.

I realize this will be over $100 for the door and that a special collar will be needed and could require pro installation. I understand the door I probably need could be more like $300, so I'm not expecting a $50 electronic door, but $500 and up is way too much.

Should be something more reasonably priced that works decently out there.

Do NOT tell me to Google or such. Been there, done that, looking for guidance from someone with actual knowledge about the product.

  • Facebook: believe it's built on LAMP?

That is the result of a search. As I'm not a computer pro, wondering from someone who IS knowledgeable, if that is the best way to build a social networking site that is going to be very large? Are there better choices now. If so, what and why is it better? Good sites to go to find useful information on creating/building/maintaining social networking sites?

Good info on the pros and cons of Facebook from the creators--what would they do differently now?

  • Sprouting seeds. Interested in best prices products?

Want to start sprouting primarily veggies (like broccoli) but open to grains and such as well. Interested in what's particularly good besides broccoli and places to get seeds to sprout for a low cost. Any tips from folks who already have experience would be appreciated as well.

  • Requirements for a Catholic from an authoritative source?

Zero interest in bashing the Church, etc. Someone asked me if there is an authoritative, concise (there's the rub), description of the requirements for a Catholic--what he is supposed to do. What he believes is the Bible and the Nicene Creed nicely highlights key points of doctrine.

Clearly the Catechism is a huge book.

Asking a priest will result in a variety of answers.

Wondering if someone is aware of something fairly short (maybe a dozen pages or fewer) that hit the essentials for a Catholic (Baptism, Confirmation, Mass attendance, Confession...) from an authoritative source.

Please state the source, where to find it (hopefully has an online link), and feel free to distill the major points if you wish. Needs to be Catholic, not some outsider's take on what is essential. Yes, Roman Catholic, not Eastern Rites.

    Thanks.

  • Infrasound. Anyone with personal experience using it for healing?

Was reading some material and discovered things like Mobile Medic for Sports Injuries and the like. Theory is that infrasound can be healing. Intriguing thought without much documentation that I can locate, but wondering if anyone has such devices or been treated with them and what you experienced. I read the reviews on Amazon.com. I know all the "it's anecdotal quackery" line. Not asking for that, looking for anyone who has used such a device and their experience of it. NOT interested in ghosts or such. Yes many animals communicate with infrasound. Irrelevant. Healing issue is all I'm interested in. Thank you.

  • Zest. Citrus zest. I have a lot of citrus fruit to get the zest from.?

I know you can take the whole fruit and rub the rind on a grater to get zest. I know you can take a sharp paring knfe and cut the rind away from the pith. However, both of these things are fairly time consuming and tiring. Anyone have an easier way/tool/method to get the zest off? I'm talking about 100 or so grapefruit, lemons, and oranges. It's a good problem to have, but my hands are cramped and someone might have another approach.

  • Blue & gold macaws: average life expectancy of hand-raised baby in captivity?

Looking for an avian vet, vet tech to an avian vet, or parrot breeder or such to comment on what seems to be the typical lfiespan of a blue and gold macaw that was caught very young, hand-raised, and been well-cared for for decades. Also is there a top three or so "things" that the birds tend to die of (like cancer or kidney failure or something)?

NOT interested in guesses, Google answers (anything from 20-80 years is given depending on where you look. That's not useful.)

    Source/s of info appreciated.

  • Juicers. Going to start juicing.?

Looking for a masticating one most likely--not a cheap centrifugal. Will juice hard and soft, veg and fruit, and am open to idea of being able to do nut butters and possibly more. In other words, know this will be in $200-400 range, but I'm too sick to NOT try something millions rave about for health.

I don't want the fast juicers as I do believe the more cut up, the more it will affect quality of output. Want to get the fibre OUT, so something like a Blendtec is exactly wrong as that's smoothies, not a juicer. Realize you can spend a grand or more on a juicer, but don't believe that's necessary. See legit ones with good reviews from Omega, Breville, etc. in range I mentioned.

Would like to hear from folks who have used the real thing and the MODELS used. Pros and cons. Doubt any are perfect, but some are clearly better than others no matter how they will be used.

Googled, read reviews, now looking for folks to share their own experience.

  • Interactive dog toys for extreme power chewer who's brilliant?

Have a black lab who is an only dog :( Can't change that any time soon. He is a power chewer. Some nylabone and EXTREME Kong toys survive--nothing else does. Interested in some interactive dog toys for him and understand need to supervise, but phones ring, run to bathroom, etc. so let's just get something a bit hardy from the get go.

Looking for folks with EXPERIENCE with highly intelligent dogs who are power chewers who find interactives that work with the dog. I can google, etc. so no interest in that kind of response.

If you have links or such, great. Also these should be INDOOR toys as I can't handle lots of temp extremes, so he'll be playing indoors with this and go out for other things like a bit of fetch, etc.

    Thanks.

  • Creamy carrot sauce recipe?

Fresh 'n Easy makes their own frozen dinners. They have a butternut ravioli with creamy carrot sauce that's excellent. The sauce is what I'm trying to find a reasonably close recipe for. Yes, I've googled, but wondering if anyone has a creamy carrot sauce recipe they want to share, especially if they've tasted the dinner I like so much. This is NOT carrots with sauce on it anymore than tomato soup is soup poured over tomatoes.

While we are on the subject, a carrot almond soup recipe is also of interest. Think it's Pacific or Imagine that makes one that is amazing, but the price is astronomical, so I'd be happy to give it a go myself, but if someone has an excellent recipe, that's appreciated. Have googled that as well so seen some of what is out there. Again this is completely creamy, no chunks of any sort whatsoever and this is not soup with "garnish" of carrots and almonds.

  • House design. Practical suggestions based on experience.?

Have a dream of being able to build own house. Would turn to an architect, but the more concrete suggstions, the better the results should be. House must be handicap accessible, energy efficient, low maintenance. Meant for the desert; around 2500 SF. Split design. Two masters, not next to one another. Kitchens very important as real cooking/baking will be done and that IS where people gather. Needs to be secure, so though views are beautiful, a glass house is not practical.

Inclined to go with concrete floors, geothermal energy & solar, tankless water heater, lots of interior storage.

What I AM looking for is practical ideas, some material reviews, things folks should do. (For example, most builders make the laundry room too confined and as appliances have been "growing," sometimes you can't get the W/D you want because it won't fit, etc. Don't have to have the size of a small room, but picking something and giving you 1 inch in any direction as "wiggle room" is poor design, period. What's the best countertop? Granite has to be babied: concrete, recycled glass, quartz, etc. all sound promising--who has any of that and any pluses or minuses from real people?

Definitely want a roll in shower in at least one of the masters--more than one way to achieve that. Thoughts, brands, must haves welcome.

Links, explanation of why you suggest something, appreciated.

  • Cataract surgery lens choice?

Will need cataract surgery and want to study up on options now. Have had both RK and LASIK to both eyes. One eye surgeon told me because of that I must go with a MONOFOCAL lens. I understand you choose for one vision chioce, near or far. Wondering about what kind of options I will have to consider. Probably inclined to go with near vision over far as I don't drive much anymore, but do computer work, read, etc.

Wondering if there are particularly good web sites to look at for current, solid info.

Not really interested in the one eye near, other eye far option. Think that would cause me problems.

Please explain why you're answering question: eye surgeon, nurse in the field, someone who has been through the surgery...

  • Dog car harness. Need quality one for my lab.?

Need a quality dog harness to use in the car so that my lab is safe while riding in the back seat. Thought it would be easy to find--look on Amazon and check out 4 stars and above. HOWEVER it appears that manufacturers are quite willing to CHEAT people. They MADE a good product, but then as costs rose, they went plastic, etc. So the folks who bought when it WAS a quality product have their 5 stars in their bumping up the junk 1 and 2 star reviews people who buy NOW write because it's inferior JUNK that is being sold. That's not something I want to risk with my boy, so I would like someone who has purchased a car harness that is excellent: strong in case of slamming on brakes, comfortable, won't chafe, etc.

I need the NAME of the product. It needs to come in large--my lab is about 55-60 pounds as he should be--so something great for a chihuahua doesn't help.

Again, need folks who have purchased the item in 2012 or who sell the item and know it is still produced appropriately to have earned the rating it's relying on.

I'm hoping it will cost under $50, but my boy's safety trumps price.

Again, have looked at Amazon and other sites, so I need personal experience for a larger dog to get a quality product. A barrier between front and back will NOT do. How does it protect HIM? Won't tether the leash either--could break his neck. Want a harness. It's a small car and a tiny crate will make him uncomfortable. Harness is best choice.

  • Shoe maker. How to find someone to make shoes for you?

Wondering how to LOOK for a person to make shoes for me? Talking about me as an indvidual, not starting a company. Multiple health problems and extra wide feet make it nearly impossible to locate shoes. Given the outrageous price anything that sounds promising costs, seems it could be possible to locate someone locally (Phoenix, AZ IS the tenth largest city in US) who could make a couple of pair that would not be for a much worse price than the mass produced shoes and should fit better and last longer. Looking for a good pair of "athletic" shoes and one good pair of dressier leather flats, so folks who make sandals/flip flops, etc. are of no use to me. Just wondering if anyone is aware of a trade group, term that used, etc. and no, guys who REPAIR shoes rarely MAKE shoes.

  • Gurgling in kitchen sink.?

We have an RO unit. It does have an air gap faucet. A few months ago, and not associated with a filter change or anything else, it started making this obnoxious glugging/gurgling sound that can go on for hours as the unit's storage refills with water. Is this the sign of a problem? If not, is there a way to eliminate the gurgling?

Plumber or someone who has been through this and KNOWS the answer appreciated. I can and did Google, so don't need that. Yes I know I can hire a plumber, so that's not a useful response either.

  • Lab: what's the best tool/s for grooming him?

Have a lab and boy does he love to shed. The rescue person told me you don't brush labs. I don't think so. However, his hair is short for his size dog (I'm used to shaggy dogs: malamutes, shepherds, etc.) so I'm not sure what the best comb/brush/whatever would be for a lab. If a groomer or such would be kind enough to tell me, I'd like to make my boy more comfortable and dispense with the rugs in the house from massive quantities of hair!

Please get specific: feel free to mention brand names or the Walmart item that works. Just want to get the boy in better condition.
