Who would you consider a highly underrated female solo-artist or band?

For what reason?

I'll take the band Curve. This was one of the best groups during the 90's and NOBODY ever mentions them, including here. The only conclusion I can come to is that they were on one of many horrible labels that didn't have a clue as how to promote them. But these guys were special. They were labeled as shoegazer but with a decidedly industrial edge. Tell me this video isn't intense.

    Alison Moyet.

Well crafted bluesy songs, often with thoughtful and clever lyrics. And the most powerful and expressive female voice ever recorded in pop music. By all rights, she should have a 10 album catalogue and a dozen hit singles.

Suzi Quatro - aside from Janis Joplin, Suzi was the first real female rocker. She inspired the likes of Joan Jett and Chrissie Hynde, and was one of the first women to gain acceptance for actually playing an instrument (bass guitar).

She still tours the world and records to this day, more than 30 years after her 70s hits.

    A brilliant band!

Even though the roles that Ann & Nancy Wilson of Heart played in Rock have been recognized, I don't think they have been recognized enough. Not only did they show many young girls that women could be amazing Rock vocalists, but they encouraged many to pick up instruments as well.

Tori Amos. Why? Because she doesn't resort to stupid publicity stunts like shaving her head or get drunk or stoned before a show, unlike some other female "artists" i could mention.

Mary Cutrufello, her 1st and only commercial release of When The Night Is Through (1998) won critical acclaim, "Though she has been compared to Springsteen and Mellencamp, what shines through on the debut recording of this Texas rocker is a passionate approach to music and a straight-ahead guitar attack." (AMG). She has since been unsigned and her newest self-released CD, 35 (2007) absolutely rocks!!

Curve reminds me of old Kidney Theives for some reason. ( Thanks for telling us about them , never heard of them )

I love female artists. There are planty of unheard of , but should be known groups. I am a HUGE fan of Faith and Disease. I just love them. The lead singer has the most haunting vioce.
